Events for food lovers
The Alba Truffle Festival, which runs during October & November, is drawing to a close and Salone del Gusto in Torino which takes place at the end of October has also just finished. Unfortunately it’s too late for this year but make a note in your diaries for 2007 as these are two events that food lovers really shouldn’t miss.
The Truffle Festival takes place in Alba each year and celebrates the famous ‘tartufo bianco’ (white Alba truffle). Markets and events take place in Alba from the end of September until mid November and the celebrations culminate in a truffle auction where, in 2005, a truffle weighing 1.2kg was sold for a staggering €95,000.
Salone del Gusto is an enormous food fair held annually in Torino. It promotes and displays a wide range of produce from across Italy and the world with tasting sessions, talks and demonstrations by the producers also taking place throughout the day. The event is organised & supported by the Slow Food Movement who have a mission to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world
